Who We Are Heartland Settlement Company is a full service title agency servicing Berks, Chester, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery and Schuylkill counties in Eastern Pennsylvania. As an agent for Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company and Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation we have the ability to refer business throughout the United States, and offer you security in the knowledge that your transaction will be handled competently by the largest and most experienced Title Underwriter in the country.

Joseph E. Schaeffer, Heartland Settlement Company President and Co-Owner, has worked in the title industry since 1976. A licensed title agent, Joe has spent nearly three decades searching and examining titles, conducting closings and managing personnel. He is a 1975 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies.

Paul Yacobowsky, Vice President and Co-Owner, is a graduate of Albright College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Business Administration. Paul has a banking background in all facets of lending - commercial, residential and consumer. He is responsible for business development. Paul's previous experience in financial lending adds a unique perspective to his work in the title industry. This background allows him to complete numerous, efficient and timely closings. Paul has been employed at Heartland Settlement Company since 1997.

Tom Shumaker, Vice President and Co-Owner, has worked in the title insurance industry since 1984. After graduating from Lafayette College, he spent four years in the Navy, including a Vietnam tour. Tom is a former realtor and builder/developer. He has been involved in many complex commercial transactions and brings a special expertise to the settlement table. Tom has been affiliated with Heartland Settlement Company since 1999.

Carol Kohler, Controller and Vice President of Finance, is a graduate of Bloomsburg University. She has seven years experience in public accounting and five years experience in the banking industry. Carol's formal training and professional background insures that all transactions will be properly disbursed and all funds both incoming and outgoing will be accounted for with total accuracy. She has been employed at Heartland Settlement Company since 1997.
